WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO
Why Volley for the Cure™?
Volley for the Cure™ was started by two friends in 2006 to bring awareness to breast cancer. A Volley for the Cure™ match is designated as an awareness and fundraising event. The goal is to pack the stands with Pink! Players, coaches, parents and schools are encouraged to get involved!
Fundraising generated through a Volley for the Cure™ event will be donated to the local Susan G. Komen® Affiliate, working to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to find the cures.
Early detection saves lives in the fight against breast cancer. By encouraging early education and awareness for the young women participating in Volley for the Cure™ events, we are working as a community towards the future, and towards a world without breast cancer.
An Amazing Phenomenon!
The Volley for the Cure™ program continues to grow. Matches are held in all corners of the state, and the idea is being replicated across the nation. To date, over 75,000 volleyball players have participated in Volley for the Cure™. During the 2015 season we surpassed $2.5 million dollars raised to support local Susan G. Komen® affiliates in the fight against breast cancer. As participation in the Volley for the Cure™ events increases, so does awareness of this terrible disease and the importance of education for all women and girls.
some kind words from our supporters...
Mrs. Jean Bode, M.Ed., School Counselor, Wilson Elementary School
“I love volunteering for the VFTC because it combines two passions in my life: my children and supporting the mission of the Komen Foundation. I think it is so valuable to empower young women with knowledge of their own breast health and encouraging them to be involved, by creating a wonderful event through their sport which is fun and meaningful.”
Carol Russo, former Executive Director, OHSVCA
“Volley for the Cure™ is an amazing opportunity to educate our young ladies about healthy lifestyles, warning signs, breast cancer and treatment options. This is truly a student driven initiative, including students submitting designs for the yearly logo. The Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association is proud to partner with Susan G. Komen in this program.”
Kaye Keller, Shawnee Middle School Volleyball Coach & former OHSVCA Treasurer
“Volley for the Cure is a tremendous learning experience for our girls. We sell hundreds of t-shirts which raises awareness anytime someone wears one. It is a true team effort. ”
